Karen van Lith – President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director
Karen van Lith (formerly Karen Beckwith) was appointed MakeMusic president, CEO, and director effective June 13, 2011. Ms. van Lith joined MakeMusic with more than twenty years of experience leading companies to profitable growth. Most recently Ms. van Lith ran her own Internet-marketing services company while providing interim CEO leadership to companies in start-up, high-growth, and crisis phases. From 2000 through 2007, she was CEO and president of Gelco Information Network, a SaaS company serving multinational companies around the world. Prior to that she was president of Ceridian Canada and senior vice president of business development at Ceridian Corporation. Ms. van Lith currently serves as a corporate director of Associated Banc-Corp and of Xata Corp., as well as on the board of Food for Hungry Minds. Ms. van Lith has an MBA from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Karen L. VanDerBosch – Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer
Karen VanDerBosch joined MakeMusic as chief financial officer in December 2006 and became the chief operating officer on November 10, 2010. Ms. VanDerBosch has more than 20 years of financial experience in technology and manufacturing industries. From 2001 to 2006, Ms. VanDerBosch was CFO at Sagebrush Corporation, a privately held developer of library automation software and services and book re-binder for the education market. Prior to joining Sagebrush, she held chief financial officer positions at KB Gear Interactive, FieldWorks Inc. and Empak Inc. Ms. VanDerBosch began her career at Honeywell and her education includes a BS from the University of Minnesota and MBA coursework at the University of St. Thomas.
Paul D. Carlson – Chief Technology Officer
Paul Carlson joined MakeMusic as chief technology officer in August 2011. Mr. Carlson has more than 20 years of experience in a variety of technology roles. From 2006 to 2011, Mr. Carlson held technology and business leadership positions with Ceridian Corporation including chief software engineer, technology leader for Ceridian’s human resources outsourcing division, and vice president, product management. Prior to Ceridian, Mr. Carlson was chief technology officer for Oculan Systems Inc., and vice president, service development for Agiliti, Inc. Mr. Carlson holds a B.S. in computer science from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls and an M.S. in software engineering from the University of St. Thomas.
Barry Brown – SVP, Marketing & Product Management
Barry Brown joined MakeMusic as senior vice president of marketing and product management in February 2012. Mr. Brown brings more than 30 years of operations, sales and marketing, and business development experience. Most recently, he was working with start-up companies to develop new products and solutions for the retail consumer market. From 2000 through 2005, he was COO at Gelco Trade Management, a privately held SaaS company serving both trade management and expense management needs for consumer product companies. Prior to that Mr. Brown was vice president of U.S. operations for Ceridian Corporation (CEN) Employer Services division. Mr. Brown holds a B.A. from Cleveland State University and studied at the Wharton School of Business. Since 2005 he has volunteered with Menttium, a leadership mentoring organization based in the Twin Cities.
Beth Sorensen – Vice President, Emerging Music Technology
Beth Sorensen joined MakeMusic in 1999 as a Finale software engineer. She was promoted to engineering manager in 2003, notation product manager in 2010, and vice president of engineering in February 2011. Recognized as a driving force behind the creation of the Finale® family of notation products, Ms. Sorensen was promoted to vice president, emerging music technology in August 2011. Ms. Sorensen has a B.A. in Music from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin, an M.M. in violin performance from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas, and a B.S. in computer science from St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minnesota.
