This introductory course focuses on how to navigate and use the basic features of the classic SmartMusic. You will become familiar with the content available for band, orchestra, choir, and general music, and discover how to expand this content by importing MP3 audio and Finale-created files.
Easily navigate the classic SmartMusic interface
Explain the difference between My Library and Find Music
Find music by either browsing the catalog or searching by instrument, category, skill level, genre, state list, and/or state skill level.
List the steps for creating playlist
List 3 things that can be modified in "settings"
List 3 of the practice tools
Download music for your specific teaching area and/or need
Understand the different ways in which repertoire behaves inside of classic SmartMusic
Add their own content to classic SmartMusic by importing MP3 recordings
Add their own content to classic SmartMusic by importing Finale-created files
Building on the basic familiarity with the classic SmartMusic content and navigation, this course leverages the classic SmartMusic Gradebook to reinforce deliberate practice with your students. You will learn to create a class, enroll students, and send them assignments. Also included is a section on grading and sharing data with parents and administrators.
Create at least one class with a set calendar and grading scale in classic SmartMusic
Enroll students in a class by using the enrollment link Schedule a variety of assignments
Add or remove State Standards to assignments for the purpose of documentation
Access and review student assignments from within the SmartMusic client
Listen to and grade assignments
Re-assign work that does not meet teacher standards
Email parents/guardians after an assignment has been submitted and attach student work
Export data to enter in school’s designated gradebook software
Export progress reports to share with parents and students during parent/teacher conferences Find help and resources to troubleshoot problems
Create additional types of assignments including: gradebook entry, automated assignments and response assignments
Create and store units of content and assignments in the Assignment Library for future use
Create and manage rubrics as well as attach rubrics to assignments for criteria-based grading
This advanced course will guide the creation of your own content for use in the classic SmartMusic. An introduction to Finale music notation software is provided, with sections on setting up a score, entering notes and markings, formatting your music, creating SmartMusic files, scanning as well as Finale tips and shortcuts.
Set up a score in Finale using the Launch Window
Enter notes using one of the following methods: simple entry, speedy entry, MIDI keyboard or scanning
Enter articulations and using at least 4 metatools
Enter expressions using at least 4 metatools
Enter SmartShapes using at least 2 metatools
Format parts to look and feel right
Export Finale files into classic SmartMusic by creating Assessment, Ensemble and Solo files
This introductory course focuses on how to navigate and use the basic Finale features. You will become familiar with the software interface, Launch Window, sound libraries, Windows vs. Mac commands, playback controls, viewing modes, tools, menus, score setup, Simple Entry note methods, adding markings and articulations, as well as Page Layout and printing. The tutorials in this course correspond to chapters 1-5 of Mavis Kallestad’s Building Successful Finale ‘Chops’ book for Finale 2014.
In this course you will apply the knowledge acquired in the Beginning Finale Notation course specifically to recreate an instrumental score. You will learn how to set up the score, enter notes and rests using a MIDI keyboard, copy music, use Metatools to enter dynamic markings and articulations such as accents, staccatos, fermatas, slurs, and rehearsal letters. You will also learn how to fit measures, and lay out your page correctly, and view and print parts, which are linked in Finale. The tutorials in this course correspond with chapter 6 of Mavis Kallestad’s Building Successful Finale ‘Chops’ book for Finale 2014.
In this course you will apply the knowledge acquired in the Beginning Finale Notation course specifically to recreate a choral score. You will learn to set up a choral score, enter notes in the first staff, copy them to the other voice parts and use the Repitch Tool to “repitch” the notes. Type in lyrics and copy them to the other voice parts. Additionally, you will add dynamics, rehearsal letters and learn how to create a piano reduction used for rehearsal. The tutorials in this course correspond with chapter 8 of Mavis Kallestad’s Building Successful Finale ‘Chops’ book for Finale 2014.
