Motivating Your String Students to Practice with MakeMusic Cloud

Dan DiPasquale

Do you want to motivate your string students to practice? The secret is making practice rewarding, attainable, and giving them exciting repertoire. In this session, we will explore resources in MakeMusic Cloud that will inspire your students to achieve their musical potential through intrinsic motivation. We will discuss how to incorporate online practice resources seamlessly into your daily rehearsals and how to provide guided practice activities outside of class. With 219 method books, popular music, and all Suzuki books, your beginning to advanced students will have a robust repertoire library that will inspire them to take their instruments home every day!

Tips for Choosing Repertoire that Excites and Engages K-12 Students

David Pope

Selecting repertoire is one of the most important responsibilities we have as orchestra teachers. If we select purposefully, the repertoire we choose can create an inclusive classroom culture and foster excitement in our students about daily rehearsals. In this session, we will discuss musical, pedagogical, and outside factors that influence our students’ enjoyment. We will also explore print and digital repertoire resources that teachers can seamlessly integrate into their classroom to support student learning.
