Teachers can now pin more than one method book or playlist to a single class at the same time, keeping several go-to resources visible to students at once. Books from The Foundations Series are included among the resources that can be pinned.
MakeMusic expanded its library of Sight Reading Studio templates to include exercises pre-configured for state and regional standards such as NYSSMA and Texas UIL, plus sets aligned to method books like Habits of a Successful Musician and Sound Innovations. This lets directors generate leveled sight-reading diagnostics for the first weeks of school without writing exercises by hand.
MakeMusic introduced ready-to-use Theory Worksheets built directly into the platform, giving teachers a way to weave music literacy into their curriculum without creating materials from scratch. The worksheets are designed to be assigned quickly alongside performance-based coursework.
MakeMusic shipped an overhauled gradebook with a cleaner layout and at-a-glance analytics. The redesign helps teachers quickly spot which students are thriving and which need extra support early in the year.
MakeMusic rolled out a redesigned Practice app with collapsible controls and easy-to-find Record and My Takes menus to reduce visual clutter for students. The update also bundles quick-access Fingering Check and Pitch Reference tools, smarter tempo-synced accompaniment for Practice Loops, and more detailed post-take feedback with an audio replay.
Sight Reading Studio now offers templates built on Andy Beck's Sing at First Sight method, generating unlimited, level-matched sight-singing exercises tied to the book's exact lesson sequence. Choirs can project the templates for classroom warm-ups or assign them at home with instant pitch and rhythm feedback.
MakeMusic introduced its first written assessment type, Multiple Choice Assessment, letting teachers build text- and image-based quizzes on notation, terms, and fingerings independent of the Music Catalog. Assessments can be reused year to year and support use cases like theory pre/post-tests, video-based sub plans, and general music classes.
Co-teaching lets two or more educators jointly manage a single MakeMusic class, splitting grading and assigning material, without sharing login credentials. Each co-teacher keeps their own profile, gradebook access, and notification settings.
Directors can now toggle from "Part" to "Full-Score" view in the Practice app's Display tab for any user-generated content created in Compose or uploaded via MusicXML. The view helps directors study orchestration, troubleshoot part-writing, and model how individual lines fit into the full ensemble during rehearsal.
GIA Habits Partnership & Foundations: Habits Edition
MakeMusic became the exclusive interactive home for GIA's Habits of a Successful Musician series starting fall 2026, bringing the method's progression and exercises into an interactive, trackable format. The partnership also launched Foundations: Habits Edition by Brian Balmages, a companion resource with skill-matched exercises correlated to the Habits progression.
